Kat Shapiro Wood

Artist, Sculptor & Teacher

Kat has been based in the Northern Rivers for just over ten years. The materiality of clay has most often been at the core of her study and work, and it found its ultimate expression in ceramic form, in particularly in the humble vessel. With a foundation in sculpture, ceramics was a natural extension of her work in clay. 

Kat has taught traditional sculptural processes for many years, and has shown both within Australia and internationally, including as an invited artist to the 2016 International Association of Ceramics 47th Congress Exhibition in Barcelona.

Inspired by Eastern philosophy, a bowl expressed the inevitable inseparability of function and form and its subtle yet powerful effect on our everyday experience.

Kat has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (major in Ceramics) at the National Art School in Sydney.
